AFEM

Dr Charmaine Cunningham recently completed a PhD that considered the adaptive capability of the interprofessional clinical teams in the EC as a complex adaptive system from a sense-making lens. This builds on a career working in transdisciplinary spaces. Charmaine's qualifications include a PhD, MBA, BTech Management, B.Soc.Sc (Nursing). Charmaine is also registered with the South African Nursing Council as Critical Care Nursing, Midwife, Community Nurse and Psychiatric nurse.

Charmaine is interested in qualitative research and narrative inquiry. Specifically, Charmaine is passionately curious about collective sense-making in complex adaptive systems. Charmaine defines collective sense-making as the interprofessional, collective process of generating and sharing information and knowledge. Complexity is like a building a puzzle, it is all about how the different parts e.g. doctors and nurses connect, whereas adaptivity is a team proficiency to continuously anticipate (sense) change and adjust.
